Motorola to Finally Update its Android Lineup to Froyo

August 26, 2010 By: izephyr Category: Mobile Software, Smartphone Platforms, Technology News

After Google announced the Froyo earlier this year, which is a consecutive update of the well known open source mobile platform Android, there has been a number of rumors as well as a few official hesitations whether the flagship Android devices like sonyericsson’s XPeria X10 and Motorola Milestone. Since there was no response from the mobile phone manufacturers there were doubt among the Android users whether those devices were going to get the Froyo (Android 2.2) update since the update includes some crucial features for the smartphone users.

After the German telecom operator O2 gave some words that they will roll out updates for Motorola Milestone, the official confirmation of the update came a little bit later. Last week, Motorola has finally gave a schedule to update their Android lineup. Even though all the devices are not going the get the update for Hardware Limitations, the most anticipated update is finally coming to Milestone. It is sad to know that the update will not be available in all regions. But those who will be able to update their Android experience, I can say that, will be happy. Lets hope that everything that Moto announced, comes to be true as per the schedule.

Apple iPad Scheduled to Hit the Market on April 3

March 05, 2010 By: izephyr Category: Gadgets, Netbooks, Portable Devices, Technology News

They call it a ‘Magical and Revolutionary’ Product (Source:Apple). The Apple iPad is set to hit the market on April 3rd. It is expected (at least the by manufacturers that it will be a sure shot like the iPhone, since it has much resemblance with the latter. With the features and appearance, it makes a clear assumption that millions of iPhone lovers is going to grasp the half-an-inch portable device that will allow them to surf the web, enjoy the movies and let do a lot more. Apple will begin pre-orders from 12th of this month. So are you after the iPad?

It has a loads of features to enjoy your multimedia experiences from watching a movie to surf the web. But what it more lacks, it seems to me, are the productivity. It’s not for you if you’re looking forward to consider it for. Watch out! it’s for Play only but the lightest. Even though there are thousands of applications available to the platform, it’s not offering a comprehensive productivity solution. You may call it a XXL size iPhone.

In short, however, the device is lightweight, thin and brilliantly designed. The more advantage is that it has a ‘Unbelievable’ price of $499!

Finally Long Lasting Discs for Storage?

November 13, 2009 By: izephyr Category: Latest Innovations, Technology News

More Precious than Diamonds. Your Memories Carved in Stone.
“Never use rewritable discs for long-term storage.”

— Library of Congress Website

When something will last forever, we say it’s “written in stone.” That’s what we’re going to do with your digital files. Photos, music, movies, documents, ledgers – anything and everything you care about — will be etched forever into a special disc made from a diamond-like material. There’s no storage on earth as secure as a Cranberry DiamonDisc™.

It’s the permanent, backwards-compatible archive solution for the digital age.

The Library of Congress warns,”Storage media such as compact discs and DVDs that were thought to last, don’t — they often fail within a few years.” Millenniata, the inventor of the Cranberry DiamonDisc, has eliminated all the failure points in DVD technology. The result is a diamond-like DVD that will last for centuries and is not susceptible to failure.

The Cranberry DiamonDisc has no adhesive layers, dye layer or reflective layer to deteriorate. A high-intensity laser physically etches your information into the diamond-like surface of our synthetic stone disc. No other layer is needed.

The format is the same as any other DVD. We changed only the materials and construction of the physical disc. And the Cranberry DiamonDisc is fully backwards-compatible. This means that it can be read by any DVD player in any computer and is fully platform-independent.
Diamond. Better than Gold.

A Cranberry DiamonDisc is transparent. You can see right through it. No need for a reflective layer of silver or gold.

TRIVIA: Gold sells for about $1,000 an ounce. But one ounce of average quality, 1-carat diamonds will sell for $825,000.

Diamond – 825 times better than gold.

“Storage media such as compact discs and DVDs that were thought to last don’t — they often fail within a few years. The backup discs you make today may become damaged or obsolete in the future.”

— Library of Congress Website
Writing to the Cranberry DVD

Specialized hardware is required to etch the diamond-like surface of a Cranberry DiamonDisc. The cost of this hardware puts it out of the reach of most consumers. This is why we’ll need to etch your DiamonDisc for you.

Let’s get started now

What’s wrong with using other methods of backing up your information? Here is a one page explanation of different solutions which are available but do not meet the test of permanent backup. We encourage you to read it carefully. Once you understand the failure points of current solutions you will be eager to start moving your files to a permanent Cranberry DiamonDisc.

The Cranberry DiamonDisc is the only permanent backward-compatible backup medium available on the market today. While you do not need your files to last 1,000 years, you do need them to last until another permanent backup solution is available in the future. Google & Verizon announces New Android Phones

October 18, 2009 By: izephyr Category: Gadgets, Smartphone, Smartphone Platforms, Technology News

Apple’s iPhone is a very successful phone and is really a popular gadget of the time. Alongside the hardware features what makes is special is it’s powerful user interface, the iPhone platform. Google’s android, however, has been trying to overdo and compete the iPhone and it’s first attempt has received much admiration from the tech savvy people around the world.

Google, the internet giant, has been working to make Android a success and has been working in partnership with well known operators. Along with their present venture with T-Mobile and Sprint, recently they have came into partnership with Verizon which was considered to be a ‘unusual’ partnership; yet earlier this month, after working for 18 months, they are about to bring two mobile phones in Verizon USA network running Google’s Android mobile operating system and announces to continue the venture to make Android a more mature mobile operating system and expect to equip the platform in more smartphones. The company spokesmen, however, kept a secret about their partnership with the actual hardware manufacturer. But there is a rumor around that Motorola and HTC may work on the Android phone’s.

Smartphone industry has grown in a large proportion and may be Google has chosen Verizon keeping the huge number of subscriber, even though Verizon do not have a good history of feature-rich phones for their subscribers.

Google will be glad to continue it’s efforts in making Android a better mobile platform. Let’s see if Android could put a deep imprint in the smartphone market in these recession days.

Low Power – High performance Display for Mobile Devices

October 15, 2009 By: izephyr Category: Latest Innovations, Technology News

If nature has given men the power to innovate, wouldn’t it be better if the innovations reflects the nature? And obviously, imitating nature is not going to cause harm to humanity rather than bringing some convenience to the people. Well, I am talking about the latest innovation by Qualcomm, a kind of reflective display technology that has been developed inspired by nature and gives a better performance and is more comfortable to eye than the traditional display technologies like LED or AMOLED.

They call it mirasol, a display technology that is based on a reflective technology called IMOD (Interferometric MODulation), putting the MEMS structures as the base making the whole thing extremely low power consuming, and highly reflective enabling the display to be seen even in direct sunlight.

According to Qualcomm, their engineers have developed the mirasol display by “studying and mimicking nature’s processes and structures”.

mirasol-display

Since, it’s a relatively new technology, it may appear to be costlier for the device manufacturers to implement as a result of which the device may become of high-price range. But as the technology is both energy efficient and human-friendly, they will be chosen by device manufacturers aiming at providing consumers with better experience and more mobility by enhancing the battery life. It looks like that this display technology is a major breakthrough in the industry.

Bluray is Getting Faster

October 10, 2009 By: izephyr Category: Latest Innovations, Technology News

The Bluray format is struggling to achieve the popularity but it seems that the growth of Bluray market is noticeably slower than former mainstream disk media like the DVD. Cost is may be an important factor behind this but the most important fact the users are still not reluctant to accept blueray is the speed and performance.  Those who love bluray or want to use the features of the format, there is definitely a good news. The very new BDR-205 of Pioneer Electronics is an 5.25-inch internal Blu-ray writer which is announced to be available in the market in the later October and at an estimated cost of around $200-$250.

Pioneer’s achievement here is in gaining the speed. Even though it’s not a giant leap of promising you a multiplex of its present 8x speed this small shift of speed to (50% faster than the previous one) a 12x cannot be ignored either.it’s the industry’s first computer blueray writer that has the fastest speed to write at an speed of 12x for both single and dual-layer Blu-ray Disc. A blue ray disc can contain around 50 GB of storage space on a dual-layer Blu-ray Disc, enabling data backup an easy task ease which has become a bit easier with the speed-up feature.

So, it seems that the blu-ray platform is getting faster and making it’s way through. However, Pioneers achievements with BDR-205 blu-ray optical drive strikes the note that the development continues to make blu-ray more reliable, faster and of better performance.

Latest research and advancement in Solar Power Technology

September 18, 2009 By: izephyr Category: Latest Innovations, Tech, Technology News, Technology in Life

World leaders in environmental movement urges that alternative energy resources should be discovered and utilized to make the world a better place for the next generation.

Solar Power, which is an enormous source of power has always been a point of focus. The developments in Solar Energy as a renewable and efficient energy source for the people around the world are getting popular. The only problem has been the complexity and technical skills required in setting up a solar panel and maintaining it. Good news spread really fast and in recent years, scientists have developed and nourished a technology through which solar cells can be made with plastic components only that can turn the sun’s huge power into electrical energy regardless of the clouds in the sky.
The plastic material used to produce electric current from  solar power uses nanotechnology through harnessing the sun’s invisible, infrared rays. These cells are the first of the kind to absorb the infrared rays of the sun and turn it into power. This breakthrough has led to an idea that sooner, the plastic component based solar technology will gain more and more popularity and efficiency as well as become cost effective.

The best of the news is that the components are too light and small that the composite can be easily sprayed onto other materials, similar to the paint we use.  Plastic solar cells are nothing new but the latest development has enabled it to harness the invisible power in the infrared spectrum.

Now the form can be utilized in many different ways from charging our cellphones through the power generated by our jacket painted with solar cells or to meet our day to day power requirements.

The researchers expect that Solar Power will potentially replace traditional power sources reducing the risk of environmental damages.
